MANILA, Philippines—TNT Tropang 5G didn’t just force a decider against NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals last Wednesday.
The Tropang 5G also celebrated a major milestone by veteran guard Jayson Castro.
In TNT’s 96-93 win at Ninoy Aquino Stadium, Castro became the latest member of the PBA’s 10,000-point club.
“That’s a recognition that’s long coming,” said Tropang 5G coach Chot Reyes. “More than the award, what I’m proud of is his journey from that young guy who was starting off with us all the way to his evolution to now.”

Castro officially reached the milestone at the 3:25 mark of the third quarter after sinking two free throws.
The veteran playmaker finished with 14 points, three assists and a steal in 24 minutes off the bench.
Joining the 10K-point club adds another milestone to Castro’s decorated career, which already includes 10 PBA championships, three Finals MVP awards, five Best Player of the Conference citations and five Mythical First Team selections.
Reyes also recalled TNT’s bold move in acquiring Castro in 2008, which eventually became one of the franchise’s defining decisions.
“I’m very proud of his journey, if you all remember, we made a really big, risky move when we traded a guy by the name of Jay Washington. When I got to Talk ‘N Text, basically he was our best player.”
“But we made that move to be able to be in a position to draft Jayson Castro. Who would’ve known he would be in that elite club of ten thousand points?”
