PBA: George King takes blame for Beermen’s latest loss

MANILA, Philippines—San Miguel Beer import George King took responsibility for the squad’s latest loss in the 2026 PBA Governors’ Cup.

King carried the burden of the team’s second loss in six games as the Beermen dropped to TNT in overtime, 93-89, on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

“It starts with me. I need to do a better job of leading this team,” he told the Inquirer.

“It’s been too many games where we allowed teams to hang around. We’ve given teams confidence.”

Even with a commendable double-double of 35 points and 16 rebounds, King wasn’t able to carry San Miguel all the way to the finish line.

His struggles from the line proved costly as he missed six of his 21 free throws that could’ve given the Beermen the win.

Aside from the gut-wrenching loss, to a depleted TNT no less, the former Blackwater import also expressed his concern with the squad’s current standing in Group A.

After starting out hot with a 3-0 card, San Miguel has since gone 1-2 for a 4-2 record, giving other teams a chance to overtake.

“For me, personally, I’m a little worried. It’s something that’s weighing on me to have two losses,” he said.

“We have to find ways to separate ourselves and do it quickly. We have to control what we can control.”

King looks to help the Beermen bounce back on Wednesday when they take on Converge (3-3) at Araneta Coliseum.
