Filipino fashion designer Lhenvil Paneda creates a digital design paying homage to the Philippine terno, ube, and pandan
Color expert Pantone recently unveiled its “Dualities” collection, a line featuring 175 colors curated into two distinct palettes that capture the essence of our multifaceted lives. The company’s Fashion, Home + Interiors newest color collection “encapsulates the essence of modern living” and “explores the interplay between light and dark.”
“As we embrace the nature of contemporary life, these palettes provide a versatile tool for designers to articulate the nuances of our dynamic world, ensuring that every creation tells a story,” Pantone says.
To fully showcase the beauty of these colors and demonstrate how to incorporate its “New Age Pastels” into design, Pantone, together with 3D garment simulation platform CLO3D, partnered with designers from around the world and tasked them with creating digital designs. One of them is Filipino fashion and costume designer Lhenvil Paneda.

For his digital design, Lhenvil reimagined the Philippine terno, drawing inspiration from local desserts such as ube and pandan. To reflect this, he used Pantone’s Violetta and Large Leaf Lime.
“I love the surprise of bringing contrasting colors together,” the designer muses. “The Philippines is like that, a vibrant mix-and-match of different cultures.”
His creation features the iconic butterfly sleeves, a bodice with a sweetheart neckline and cutout details, and a layered ball skirt with ruching and a high slit. Completing the look is a pair of gloves in Violetta.

“I let the color dictate the direction I’m going for,” Lhenvil tells Pantone. “Color sets the mood and conveys the emotion I want to project.”
Apart from Lhenvil, Pantone also tapped London-based South African designer Josh Jen, Barcelona-based designer Jon Sanchez, Monica Findeis from Brazil, Greta Staude from Germany, Lithuanian designer Povilas Zaleskis, Serbian designer Vesna Stawa, Olympic swimmer and designer Calvyn Justus, and London-based designer Stephy Fung for the “Dualities” collection.
