Presidential Communications Office via Facebook
MANILA, Philippines — The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) has once again asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate and file “appropriate legal action” against Facebook pages that are spreading disinformation about the president’s health.
In a statement, Robertzon Ramirez, PCO’s Anti-Fake News Desk Director, said that the PCO endorsed three Facebook accounts to the DOJ on Wednesday, April 15.
The following Facebook accounts were the subject of complaints, according to the PCO:
The account "Iloy Bugris: The Queen of Revelations" conducted live broadcasts falsely claiming the president is critically ill and solicited financial contributions from viewers through posted Cash and BPI account details. During one broadcast, the administrator displayed a purported medical document that was fabricated.
The account "Rigondola Ping" posted manipulated images depicting the president in a state of physical distress—images that do not depict a real event and were designed to mislead the public.
The account "Crage Anderpal" posted a fabricated news graphic falsely claiming an official confirmation of a serious presidential health condition.
In an interview with reporters, DOJ Spokesperson Polo Martinez said that the agency will refer the PCO’s endorsement to the National Bureau of Investigation.
On April 7, the PCO first endorsed a Facebook account, “Malasakit News Pilipinas,” for investigation and possible filing of complaints, also over the alleged dissemination of false information on energy security.
