MANILA, Philippines — No discussions have been made about replacing Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco, Malacañang said yesterday, following fresh rumors that she is on her way out of the Cabinet.

Reports on social media claimed that Frasco, who recently drew flak over tourism promotion materials containing her photos, would soon be replaced by Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Patrick Gregorio.

Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro denied that a leadership change in the tourism department is forthcoming.

“As of now, there are no talks about that,” Castro said in a text message.

Frasco has ordered the removal of her images from promotion materials, which critics said highlighted her rather than the country’s tourist attractions.

However, this is not the first time speculations circulated that Frasco is about to be replaced as tourism chief.

Last month, reports indicated that former Philippine Airlines president Stanley Ng was being considered to replace Frasco, as the country’s tourism sector is not attracting enough visitors.

Castro had clarified that Frasco still enjoys the trust and confidence of President Marcos.
