MANILA, Philippines — The government has allocated a total of P58.53 billion for the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) under the proposed 2027 national budget to finance priority development programs in different parts of the country, according to Executive Secretary Ralph Recto.
This is the largest allocation for LGSF in the country’s history, Recto said in a statement yesterday.
Among the programs funded under the LGSF is the 10-kilo free rice every two months to nearly eight million Filipino families.
It also funds farm-to-market roads, water systems, health facilities and multipurpose buildings that can also be used as evacuation centers during disasters.
“We do not want to impose on LGUs what to do. We want to listen to you, work with you and deliver results with you,” Recto said.
The executive secretary also said local government units’ share in national taxes would reach P1.4 trillion in 2027, also the highest in the country’s history.
“Almost 30 percent of all government tax collections are automatically remitted to our local governments. This is the largest fund to go directly to LGUs in the history of the country,” Recto said.
The largest portion of the national tax allotment will go to 1,491 municipalities, which will receive a total of P448.70 billion, Recto said.
Meanwhile, a total of P303.56 billion will go to 83 provinces, P303.56 billion to 149 cities and P263.97 billion to 41,912 barangays throughout the Philippines, he added.
