MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos is “well” and working even on a Saturday, Malacañang said amid fresh rumors that the Chief Executive was brought to a hospital.
Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the President is healthy and working on a weekend, as he held a meeting with the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) yesterday.
Castro issued the statement over Viber when asked to confirm a report that the President was brought to the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.
Social media posts on Facebook mentioned a large presence of police officers around the hospital alleging that Marcos, who had just recovered from diverticulitis, was rushed there for treatment.
However, Special Action Force director Maj. Gen. Mark Pespes said that commandos from Camp Bagong Diwa were deployed in the area to provide assistance to authorities in serving a warrant of arrest against a man confined in the hospital who is wanted for murder.
On Friday, Marcos welcomed the new ambassadors of Slovak Republic, Papua New Guinea and Lao at the Palace.
Marcos is scheduled to travel to New York, from March 8 to 11 for a working visit.
Prior to this, Marcos will meet South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in Manila on March 3.
In January, the 68-year-old Marcos disclosed he was afflicted with diverticulitis, which he described as “a common complaint” of people who are “heavily stressed” and are growing old. The President said it was not a life-threatening condition. — Emmanuel Tupas
