THE Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) has approved a P50 million grant to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to support the deportation of foreign workers employed by illegal offshore gaming operators in the country.

The funding was formalized through a memorandum of agreement signed on June 30 at the Pagcor Executive Office in Pasay City.

“These individuals cannot afford plane tickets home,” Tengco noted. “This grant ensures they receive assistance under international laws and humanitarian standards.”

He added that the initiative supports Pagcor’s mission of maintaining a legitimate and socially responsible gaming industry.

“We continue working with the BI to enforce the government’s ban on offshore gaming, following President Marcos’ directive,” he said.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado stressed the importance of a whole-of-government approach.

“Fast-tracking deportations ensures safer communities,” he said.

Tengco thanked the BI for its partnership, adding, “We look forward to deeper collaboration to build a safe, progressive Philippines.”
