MANILA, Philippines — Illegally transported fuel worth P6.62 million was intercepted by agents of the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Tubay, Agusan del Norte on Friday.
The seizure stemmed from information that an oil pilferage activity or paihi was ongoing in Barangay Santa Ana, according to CIDG director Maj. Gen. Robert Alexander Morico II.
Responding CIDG operatives caught two men transferring fuel from a tanker truck into a barrel and several containers.
Police said the truck came from Cagayan de Oro City and made a stop in Tubay.
Morico said up to 180 liters of fuel were recovered from the suspects. He said the CIDG has intensified the nationwide anti-fuel pilferage campaign amid rising prices of petroleum products.
The public has been urged to report illegal trading of petroleum products in their communities.
