COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Officials of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 9 and local executives together burned P5.9 million worth of shabu and marijuana, confiscated in separate anti-narcotics operations in recent years, in an incinerator of a power plant in Aurora town in Zamboanga del Sur on Thursday, February 26.

Bryan Babang, director of PDEA 9, municipal and provincial officials and representatives from units of the Police Regional Office 9 together led the destruction of 853 grams of shabu and 28.8 grams of marijuana that were used as evidence in the prosecution in courts of traffickers during a symbolic rite at the power-generating incinerator of the Libertad Power and Energy Corporation in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur.

The power plant is using biodegradable fuel to run its heat-generated power generators.

Babang said he is thankful to the local government units, the PRO-9 and its counterparts in other southern regions for having supported their operations that resulted in the confiscation of the shabu and marijuana that they destroyed on Thursday.

He said the arrested dealers of the shabu and marijuana that they set on fire at the power plant in Aurora have all been convicted in different courts for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
