COTABATO CITY, Philippines – Suspected smuggled cigarettes valued at P44 million were found buried in Parang town, Maguindanao del Norte on Tuesday.
Police and members of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) excavated 2,004 boxes of Indonesian-made cigarettes at a farm in Barangay Gumagadong Calawag.
Brig. Gen. Jaysen de Guzman, Bangsamoro police director, said that villagers tipped off authorities about the location of the contraband.
De Guzman said the cigarettes would be turned over to the BOC for proper disposition.
