MANILA, Philippines — Smuggled cellphones and other gadgets valued at P221.5 million were intercepted in Quezon City on Wednesday.
The contraband was stashed in four trucks, which were flagged by the police Highway Patrol Group along Mindanao Avenue.
HPG director Brig. Gen. Hansel Marantan said police officers noticed the convoy of trucks for traffic violations, such as fraudulent license plates. Some of the drivers were not wearing seat belts.
The HPG said it received information about a convoy of trucks allegedly transporting illegal goods from Central Luzon to Metro Manila.
The gadgets were turned over to the Bureau of Customs for further investigation.
