MANILA, Philippines — Smuggled cigarettes valued at P12 million were seized in a police operation in Governor Generoso town in Davao Oriental on Friday.
The contraband was found in an Isuzu wing van that police pulled over for a routine inspection in Barangay Pundaguitan.
The van driver was arrested after he failed to show documents authorizing the transport of his cargo.
Police said they found the vehicle loaded with 504 master cases of assorted cigarette brands, which were turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.
