P11.7M drugs seized in WVisayas

ILOILO CITY — A series of anti-illegal drug operations by the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) led to the seizure of suspected shabu and marijuana worth around P11.76 million.

The crackdown, conducted from Feb. 10 to 16, resulted in the confiscation of 1,729 grams of suspected shabu and 57 grams of suspected marijuana through 87 operations in Region 6 (Western Visayas).

The operation also led to the arrest of 111 suspects of which 19 were classified as high-value targets and 92 were street-level individuals.

The Iloilo Police Provincial Office recorded the highest drug confiscation, seizing P4.7 million worth of illegal substances and arresting 18 suspects.

The Iloilo City Police Office followed with a P2.8 million worth of illegal drugs and 20 arrests, while the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) confiscated P1.9 million worth of drugs and made 46 arrests.

Aside from having the third-largest drug haul, Nocppo accounted for the highest number of arrests, making up 41.44 percent of the total apprehensions.

In the same week, the PRO-6 also conducted "Birada Semana," a weeklong anti-criminality and law enforcement campaign.

A total of 241 wanted persons, 41 of which are classified as most wanted, and 200 as other wanted persons were apprehended by authorities.

Meanwhile, the PRO-6 also arrested 21 individuals for illegal possession of firearms and 106 individuals for illegal gambling.
