MANILA, Philippines — The Negros Electric and Power Corp. is investing around P1.3 billion to improve Negros Power’s distribution networks and boost service reliability throughout its franchise area.
The power utility serving Bacolod City and surrounding areas in Negros Occidental said the funding will be used for grid modernization initiatives.
The upgrading of substations, electricity lines, transformers and poles are expected to reduce power interruptions in the province.
“Our goal is to ensure that our customers continue to enjoy affordable power while supporting our long-term sustainability through renewable energy,” Negros Power president and chief executive officer Roel Castro said.
Since the rollout of its grid enhancements, Negros Power reported a significant decline in the average number of outages.
Last year, power interruptions averaged just 1.41 per month, a 59-percent drop from the previous year.
Outages have also become shorter, decreasing to a monthly average of 129 minutes in 2025 from 993 in 2024.
Apart from improving its power system, the company also continues to expand its sitio electrification program, to provide more rural communities access to reliable power.
Beyond electrification, Negros Power initiated key infrastructure improvements in urban areas including the rollout of underground distribution systems.
Negros Power, a joint venture between Razon-owned Primelectric Holdings and Central Negros Electric Cooperative, assumed control of power distribution networks in Central Negros in August 2024.
By 2029, the company targets to complete the rehabilitation and modernization of its distribution networks.
