MANILA, Philippines — Smuggled cigarettes valued at P1.1 billion were seized in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu on Friday morning.
The contraband was reportedly discovered in a warehouse in an industrial park in Barangay Basak.
Police raided the warehouse and seized boxes of cigarettes bearing fake tax stamps, machine and raw materials.
Four Chinese nationals and a Filipino were arrested following the raid.
Charges for violating Article 172 of the Revised Penal Code will be filed against the suspects whose identities were not immediately known.
