Over 700 vegetable farmers in Benguet received help from GMA Kapuso Foundation amid the colder weather.
According to “24 Oras” Wednesday, the farmers' crops have been covered in frost during the month of January due to the cold weather.
“Usually po, nangyayari ito in the month of later part of December and until February. ‘Pag na-andap po ang mga tanim natin, ‘pag matagal po ‘yung frost in the plant, the plant will either rot or will die,” Benguet Provincial Agriculturist Delinia Juan said.
Among those who were affected was Gary Bosilo, who plants cabbages and carrots.
“‘Di na namin tinuloy na hinarvest kasi lugi,” he said.
Marissa Lobhoy, another farmer who plants potatoes, was also saddened by what happened to their crops.
“Nakakaiyak talaga pero kailangan namin na bumangon ulit, magtrabaho ulit para sa mga anak naming nag-aaral,” she said.
Through Operation Bayanihan, GMA Kapuso Foundation delivered food packs to the farmers.
“Marami kayong tutulungan dito sa ‘min. Masaya kami, parang may manibagong pag-asa,” Martha Carbonel said.
