MANILA, Philippines — Business names registered with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reached over one million as of Dec. 23 last year, reflecting continued entrepreneurial activity.
Data from the DTI as of Dec. 23 showed that 1.02 million business names were registered with the agency last year.
In 2024, full-year business name registrations reached 1.06 million.
Of the business names registered last year, 879,304 were new filings while 137,053 were renewals.
The bulk or 86.32 percent or 877,325 of the business names were filed online last year.
The data also showed that 12.32 percent or 125,213 business names were registered through hybrid mode, while the balance was filed through walk-in registration.
The wholesale and retail trade sector, which also covers repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles and personal and household goods, accounted for the largest share at 53 percent through 542,774 filings last year.
Accommodation and food service activities placed second with a 14-percent share or 138,957 listings, followed by manufacturing with a 5.6-percent share or 57,300 filings.
By location, Region IV-A or Calabarzon saw the most business names registered last year at 191,163.
This was followed by the National Capital Region with 154,489 listings, while Region III or Central Luzon placed third with 139,301 filings.
For the month of December, registered business names reached 37,721 filings as of Dec. 23.
Of the filings in December, 32,187 were new registrations while 5,534 were renewals.
