Alyanna Ong and Fianne Ariola brought pride to the NCAA, emerging as first-round picks in the 2026 PVL Draft that yielded a very lean turnout with only 11 of the 38 aspirants being picked.
ZUS Coffee, a lottery team that owned the fourth overall pick, made a huge surprise in selecting Ong—the highest selected NCAA player in the league’s draft history—on Wednesday at Novotel.
“It was honestly very unexpected. I had high hopes, but I didn’t expect to be picked in the Top 4,” said Ong in Filipino. “I’m really thankful to coaching staff and management for giving me the opportunity to showcase my skills and contribute to the team.”
A middle blocker out of Mapua, Ong competed against ZUS Coffee coach Jerry Yee’s College of Saint Benilde during her time as a Lady Cardinal.
And she is determined not only to prove her worth, but also to show that NCAA products belong to the cream of the crop of Philippine volleyball.
“I’m very happy because it’s a big deal to represent the NCAA. I truly believe the NCAA has a lot of talent and potential,” Ong said. “To be given the opportunity to represent the league means a lot to me. I’m just really thankful and grateful.
“One thing I can bring is my youth and energy. I’ll make sure to contribute by bringing high energy and a positive presence to the team,” she went on.
Meanwhile, PLDT drafted University of Perpetual Help setter Ariola as the seventh overall pick.
“I’m so happy, and honestly, I feel overwhelmed right now,” Ariola said in Filipino, minutes after her selection. “I really didn’t expect to get drafted, and then to be selected in the first round makes it even more overwhelming. I’m just super happy and grateful.”
Ariola is excited to learn from veteran playmaker Kim Fajardo, as PLDT defends its crown in the PVL on Tour starting next month.
“I know I’ll learn so much, especially since I’ll be playing and training alongside a legendary veteran setter like (Fajardo),” she said. “I’m excited to work with her, train with her and learn from her experience.”
Joining a two-time champion team inspires the rookie setter to grow and contribute to the High Speed Hitters.

“The pressure is always there. I would say it’s definitely pressure-filled to join a team with a winning culture, but I believe my teammates and coaches will help me adjust,” Ariola said. “I also think I’m someone who adapts quickly.”
