'We can't ignore something of this magnitude,' says Ombudsman Boying Remulla

MANILA, Philippines – Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla announced on Friday, May 15, that his office had approved the preventive suspension of Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Mao Aplasca over the Senate shooting incident on May 13.

Aplasca is suspended for six months with no pay, said Remulla. The suspension also takes effect on Friday.

“We can’t ignore something of this magnitude,” said Remulla.

The Ombudsman imposes preventive suspension during investigations to preserve impartiality in probes.

Meanwhile, National Bureau of Investigation chief Melvin Matibag also said in a television interview on Friday that Aplasca is also among the persons of interest, alongside Senator Robin Padilla, in the disappearance of Senator Bato Dela Rosa.

This is a developing story. – Rappler.com
