MANILA, Philippines — More than 25,000 overseas Filipino workers in South Korea are set to benefit from a higher minimum wage following the implementation of a new hourly rate for 2026, the Department of Migrant Workers said.
In a recent advisory, the DMW said South Korea’s minimum hourly wage has been increased to 10,320 won (about P411 per hour), up from the 10,030 won last year.
The DMW said the adjustment took effect on Jan. 1.
Based on a typical 209-hour work month (40 hours per week), the new rate equates to around 2,156,880 won monthly or roughly over P86,000 before taxes and deductions, based on current exchange rates.
The DMW estimates that 25,606 Filipino minimum wage workers will directly benefit from the increase.
“South Korea’s minimum wage is reviewed annually based on factors like cost of living, wage levels, labor productivity, income distribution and industry type, aligning the needs of workers and the business sector,” the DMW said.
As of November last year, South Korea ranked 10th among the Philippines’ sources of remittances, accounting for about 2.4 percent of the total.
