MANILA, Philippines — A typhoon with international name Saudel is set to enter the Philippine area of responsibility today and will be given the local name Obet, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
Should it enter PAR, Obet will be the 15th tropical cyclone this year and fourth this month after Luis, Maymay and Neneng.
It is expected to enter PAR today and intensify into a super typhoon.
It will just have a brief entry and will exit the next day, but will still enhance the southwest monsoon.
Based on the latest weather bulletin yesterday, the center of Saudel was last located at 1,950 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon.
It is packing winds at 165 kms. per hour with gusts of 205 kph while moving northwestward at 30 kph.
Meanwhile, Neneng is still outside PAR and is at 520 kms. north of Itbayat, Batanes, packing winds of 55 kph and gusts of 70 kph.
Neneng is not expected to re-enter PAR as it is moving southwestward at 25 kph.
The other tropical depression was last located at 1,265 kms. east of Southeastern Luzon packing winds of 55 kph and gusts of 70 kph.
It is not expected to enter PAR as it is moving east-northeastward at 15 kph.
