BAYOMBONG, Philippines — The provincial government of Nueva Vizcaya has declared a state of calamity due to massive destruction caused by Super Typhoon Uwan.
During a regular session on Monday, the provincial board led by Vice Gov. Eufemia Dacayo passed a resolution declaring Nueva Vizcaya under a state of calamity.
The declaration was in accordance with the guidelines provided under a memorandum order of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Presidential Proclamation 1077 and recommendations of the provincial disaster office.
Gov. Jose Gambito said the province incurred P3.13 million in damage to agriculture and infrastructure.
The agriculture sector incurred the highest amount of damage with P2.01 billion, affecting 31,625 farmers and fisherfolk, Gambito said.
Records showed that high-value crops incurred the most damage with P1.7 billion followed by palay with P227.63 million and corn with P15.25 million.
Damage to infrastructure including bridges, roads, flood control projects, schools, government facilities, tourism sites, health centers, churches and other government assets has reached P1.11 billion.
Gambito created a task force to speed up recovery and rebuilding efforts.
On Tuesday, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Cagayan Valley provided 1, 270 sacks of rice for victims of Uwan in Nueva Vizcaya.
Leon DG Rafael, OCD regional director, said the rice assistance would boost the relief operation of the provincial government for affected families.
Aside from Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Cagayan and Batanes,the OCD-Cagayan Valley delivered 800 sacks of rice in Quirino province.
