Opting to stay and help the NU Lady Bulldogs’ UAAP title defense, Alyssa Solomon withdraws her application from the Korean Volleyball Federation import draft

MANILA, Philippines — NU Lady Bulldogs star Alyssa Solomon backed out on plans to throw in her name to the 2025 Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) Asian Quota import draft, as her amateur status would have been stripped.

Solomon, who voluntarily dropped her application, would have been ineligible playing out her final games for NU, which is gunning for a title repeat in UAAP women’s volleyball.

Unlike the NCAA, the UAAP prohibits athletes from joining a professional league draft while the season is ongoing.

Solomon and the Lady Bulldogs remain unbeaten in Season 87 action with a 6-0 record, and will go for a first-round sweep when they battle the streaking UST Golden Tigresses on Sunday, March 16, in a finals rematch.

According to sources, NU informed Solomon on March 12 the implications of her draft plans. The following day, the towering star said she decided to stay put.

Solomon first confirmed her application to the KOVO draft last March 9, but the Alas Pilipinas stalwart said she remains committed to the Lady Bulldogs.

There are no league repercussions, though, since the official draft in Korea is still on April 10.

Other Filipino aspirants in the Korean league this year are Majoy Baron of PLDT, Mars Alba of Choco Mucho, and Maddie Madayag of Japan’s Kurobe.

Solomon, a 6-foot-1 opposite hitter, will be a highly in-demand recruit when she ends her collegiate stint, with the local PVL and other Asian volleyball leagues among her options. – Rappler.com
