Nothing, the brand that’s made waves in the tech industry these past few years, has finally broken the silence on the upcoming Nothing Phone (3) release.
Unlike most other smartphone manufacturers that choose to release a new iteration of their halo product every year, Nothing has kept mostly silent on its main Nothing Phone line. The last product was the Nothing Phone (2), which came out in July 2023. That device was nothing short of interesting and definitely undercut its competitors – not by relying on spec sheet dominance, but by focusing on experience over everything else. Just think Pixel.
Since then, Nothing has released the Nothing Phone (2a) in 2024 which was targeted to be the budget version of the (2). This phone became an overnight success thanks to its quirky design, lack of deal-breaking compromises, and undeniable value. It stands out in a sea of low-midrange devices.
Due to its overwhelming success, a follow-up soon came in the form of the (3a) and (3a) Pro, two stunning smartphones released this year.
Nothing’s sub-brand CMF even had its own time in the limelight with the CMF Phone 1 (by NOTHING). This went below even the (2a) to serve the entry-level market with founder Carl Pei’s philosophy around smartphones.
This was all well and good. However, a lot of people were left questioning whether Nothing had abandoned its upper-midrange aspirations. That doesn’t appear to be the case as Nothing founder Carl Pei has just confirmed that the Nothing Phone (3) will be coming in Q3 of 2025.
Most reactions were those of curiosity. With the presence of the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro, will the Nothing Phone (3) finally be able to set its sights on true flagship territory? After all, it can be priced a bit higher, and with that, ship with more expensive internals.
We doubt that people are expecting Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite-level chipsets. However, a powerful Snapdragon 7 series chip would probably do the job, alongside an improved camera system over the dual 50-megapixel arrangement that its predecessor had.
Another major point is software support – most brands have committed to 6 or 7 years of support for their devices, whether in Android version updates or security patches. The Nothing Phone (2) came with 3 years software and 4 years security updates, which may no longer be an acceptable length of time for a near-flagship phone in 2025.
What we can expect to return though is the unique signature glyph design, as well as the smoothness of Nothing OS.
