MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Imee Marcos has no security detail with the Presidential Security Command (PSC) amid her widening rift with her family, a Commission on Appointments (CA) hearing found.

Rear Admiral Andro Val Abayon, who was seeking the CA’s confirmation of his ad interim appointment as PSC commander, disclosed this before senators on Wednesday.

Upon interpellation by Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson, Abayon admitted that while the PSC is tasked with securing President Marcos, the First Family and the President’s siblings, no personnel were assigned to the senator, who has had a falling out with her younger brother  the President.

“When I arrived three months ago, I studied the security plans and close-in protection system of the PSC. When I checked all the personnel assigned, I saw that there was no personnel assigned to the good senator,” Abayon said.

Lacson said while it is the “basic function of the PSC to secure the siblings,” it seems the PSC has failed to provide security for Senator Imee, who is the President’s eldest sister.

He asked Abayon what the PSC intends to do about it, because “it is not up to the presidential sister – in this case, Sen. Marcos – if she needs security or not, because if something happens to her, it’s your responsibility.”?Abayon said he will meet Senator Marcos after the confirmation hearings “for the preparations of her security.”

“It is mandated for us to protect the siblings,” Abayon said.

Sen. Jinggoy Estrada asked Abayon what he would do if President Marcos prevented the assignment of a security detail to Imee, and as Abayon seemed stumped, Lacson chipped in and said, “I’ll posit an answer: I’ll cross the bridge when I get there,” eliciting laughter from the audience.

The President and his sister have been at odds ever since Vice President Sara Duterte became the Chief Executive’s arch-critic.

The senator, who has allied herself with Duterte, also publicly accused the President and the First Family of using illegal drugs last year.

Despite the controversy, Abayon’s ad interim appointment was confirmed by the CA, alongside 80 other generals or flag officers and senior officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
