MANILA, Philippines — Several government officials have said that there is no official communication from the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding a purported warrant of arrest against Sen. Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go.
This came after Rep. Paolo Duterte (Davao 1st District) claimed that a “highly reliable source” gave him information that alleged warrants were issued against Go and two former police officers.
In a statement on Thursday, June 18, Philippine National Police Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said that the police have not received any official “communication documentation or directive” from any government agency regarding the alleged ICC warrants.
“We rely on formal processes and verified information, not speculation or social media posts,” Nartatez added.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla also said that neither he nor Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida has received any communication about a warrant.
National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag said the NBI has not received any notice from the ICC.
“Wala pa po. Wala po kaming nare-receive pa. Walang communication ng warrant. Hindi ko po alam kung saan nanggagaling si Congressman Pulong Duterte kung anong warrant po sinasabi niya,” Matibag said in a DZBB interview.
(There is none yet. We haven't received anything yet. No communication regarding a warrant. I don’t know where Congressman Pulong Duterte is getting his information or what warrant he is talking about.)
After the issuance of an ICC warrant of arrest against Sen. Bato Dela Rosa, former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, who was a complainant in the ICC case, said that the international tribunal would issue a warrant against Go.
He claimed that Go, who was former president Rodrigo Duterte’s aide, is tagged as a co-conspirator in cases involving crimes against humanity, murder, and attempted murder.
