MANILA, Philippines — Disaster response officials said all individuals reported missing after the landslide at the Barangay Binaliw dumpsite in Cebu City have been fully accounted for.

The Bureau of Fire Protection Region 7 Cebu City Fire Station said the last body was recovered at 5:41 a.m., bringing the confirmed death toll to 36.

“As of 0541H, all reported individuals have now been fully accounted for following the dumpsite landslide incident in Barangay Binaliw, Cebu City,” the BFP said in a statement.

“Responding teams have completed systematic search, rescue, and retrieval operations, ensuring that no further missing persons remain. Coordination among ground units and partner agencies remains in effect as post-operation assessments and site monitoring continue,” it added.

All victims identified. Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak, chair of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, confirmed the recovery of the last victim in a dzBB report.

Tumulak said all 36 fatalities were male and were employees of Prime Waste Solutions and its four subcontractors.

He added that K-9 units deployed from Iloilo played a key role in locating the victims.

The garbage landslide occurred on January 8 at the Binaliw sanitary landfill in Barangay Binaliw, Cebu City, at around 4:17 p.m.

Cebu City observed a day of mourning on January 16 in honor of the victims.

A state of calamity declaration has also allowed the city government to tap P30 million from its emergency funds to address continuing garbage disposal and response needs.
