MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Embassy in Indonesia said that no Filipinos have been reported among the casualties following a devastating landslide in Bandung, West Java, which has claimed at least eight lives and 82 more are missing.

In a statement on Saturday, January 24, the embassy said that “no Filipino has been reported to be affected by the incident.”

“The Embassy continues to monitor the situation of Filipinos in the area and hopes that the search and rescue operations of Indonesian authorities will recover more survivors,” the embassy’s statement read.

According to the embassy, the landslide struck the Cisarua district, a mountainous region located far from the city center, at approximately 3:30 a.m. (Manila time) on January 24.

The landslide was triggered by heavy and sustained rainfall, affecting an estimated 113 families.

While 23 individuals have been reported safe, search and rescue operations are ongoing for 82 persons who remain missing, according to the embassy.

Local government units in Indonesia have placed the area under an emergency alert status, urging residents to remain vigilant and evacuate immediately if conditions worsen.

Filipinos in the area or those with information regarding affected nationals are encouraged to contact the Philippine Embassy through its WhatsApp hotline at +62 811 887 344.
