MANILA, Philippines — There is no looming revamp in the Cabinet of President Marcos, Malacañang clarified yesterday, following a report on supposed leadership change in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
“With regard to the rigodon (Cabinet reshuffle), none at the moment. But regarding the DENR secretary, the President is looking into that,” Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in Filipino at a press briefing.
Castro made the response when asked about a report that Environment Secretary Raphael Lotilla may soon be out of the Cabinet.
When asked to clarify what records of Lotilla are under review at the Palace, Castro replied, “What was said is that there has been a third bypass of his appointment, so the President and the Presidential Management Staff are now reviewing the records, and we’ll see what the update will be regarding this.”
A third bypass by the Commission on Appointments usually means the nominee cannot keep the post.
Castro was also asked about Sen. Rodante Marcoleta’s concern over the supposedly growing number of government agencies that are being led by secretaries serving in an acting capacity.
“There will no longer be any rigodon, and the names will be submitted to the Commission on Appointments as soon as possible,” Castro said.
