Heavy traffic along North Luzon Expressway in San Simon, Pampanga due to massive flooding brought by heavy rainfall was reported on Monday, August 31.

MANILA, Philippines — Traffic conditions remain unstable in North Luzon Expressways as some routes remain affected by floodwaters on Tuesday, August 1. 

As of 8:20 a.m., NLEX Corp. reported the following road and traffic conditions in these areas:

Northbound

  • Libtong exit - temporarily closed due to local road flooding
  • Sta. Rita Northbound entry - temporarily closed to all vehicle classes
  • Pulilan Northbound entry - temporarily closed to all vehicle classes
  • Candaba Viaduct - Passable, with heavy traffic
  • Tulaoc (San Simon) - Passable, with heavy traffic and water build up in all lanes
    • Lane 1 - passable to all types of vehicles
    • Lane 2 - passable to class 2 and 3 only
  • San Simon Interchange - Not passable to class 1, with heavy traffic and water build up in all lanes
    • Lane 1 - passable to class 2 and 3 only

Southbound

  • Balintawak - Passable, with light traffic
  • Valenzuela - Passable, with light traffic
  • Meycauayan - Passable, with light traffic
  • Tulaoc (San Simon) - Passable, with heavy traffic
    • Lane 1 - passable to all  types of vehicles
    • Lane 2 - passable to class 2 and 3 only
  • San Simon Interchange - with heavy traffic and water buildup
    • Lane 1 - passable to all types of vehicles
    • Lane 2 and 3 - not passable

According to the advisory, the water buildup was due to rising water levels in the Pampanga River.

The management also provided alternative route instructions to motorists:

Going northbound: Class 1, 2 and 3 vehicles are advised to reroute on Balagtas exit and use Maharlika road toward Central Luzon Link Expressway (CLLEX)

Going southbound: Class 1 motorists from Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and Tarlac-La Union-Pangasinan Expressway (TPLEX) traveling to Manila are advised to reroute to CLLEX toward Maharlika Highway.
