MANILA, Philippines — Safety and maintenance efforts along the North Luzon Expressway are being scaled up to enhance traffic flow along NLEX this rainy season.
NLEX Corp. said it has cleared several drainage systems and prepared pumps and detention tanks in Balintawak and Paso de Blas in Valenzuela.
Clearing operations were also undertaken in creeks and rivers in Valenzuela, Caloocan and Manila where garbage and silt were collected from January to May.
“Having cleaned critical and flood-prone waterways in surrounding areas affecting the expressway, we believe that stormwater can now flow freely and help reduce the risk of overflow that sometimes reaches the expressway,” NLEX president and general manager Luis Reñon said.
Emergency equipment including portable flood barriers for low-lying sections of the expressway have been readied and early warning cameras were installed to enhance real-time monitoring of water levels in creeks.
Maintenance teams repaired pavements along NLEX and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway and conducted asphalt overlay between Ciudad de Victoria and Bocaue.
The expresway operator said NLEX would continue coordinating with national and local authorities to ensure a speedy and synchronized response during bad weather, NLEX Corp said.
