Motorists traversing North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) should brace for heavy traffic near Marilao interchange bridge, as repairs on the infrastructure are expected to be completed within two weeks.

In a statement on Thursday, March 20, NLEX Corp. said it has conducted a thorough assessment of the bridge’s condition after it was struck by an 18-wheeler truck exceeding vertical clearance yesterday.

Two bridge girders were found to have sustained severe damage from the incident.

NLEX Corp. said these girders have been temporarily supported for safety. However, it noted that they need to be completely replaced.

“During this time, motorists should expect heavy traffic in the area as we work diligently to complete the repairs, prioritizing the safety of all drivers,” it said.

The middle lanes in the northbound (NB) direction–lanes two and three–will remain temporarily closed.

When feasible, a zipper lane will be opened in the southbound (SB) direction to help alleviate congestion.

NLEX has implemented traffic management measures to deal with the congestion.

It has also posted alternative routes on its social media pages to provide motorists with additional options.

For instance, motorists from EDSA going to Bulacan or Pampanga are advised to take Karuhatan exit or Paso de Blas NB exit going to MacArthur Highway and re-enter at NLEX Ciudad de Victoria (CDV) NB or NLEX Bocaue interchange NB.

Meanwhile, motorists from Bulacan or Pampanga going to Manila are advised to exit at Bocaue SB interchange or CDV SB, turning right to MacArthur Highway and re-enter at NLEX Meycauayan SB.

“NLEX is committed to expediting repairs and restoring normal traffic flow as quickly as possible,” the operator said.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure your safety,” it added.
