NLEX says it will continue to waive toll fees from the Balintawak to Meycauayan segment until further notice

MANILA, Philippines – All four lanes of the North Luzon Expressway’s (NLEX) Marilao northbound area are now open to the public.

Authorities earlier said that repairs of the damaged Marilao interchange bridge will take two to three weeks. However, NLEX Corporation at 11 pm on Tuesday, March 25, said that all four lanes will be passable.

“NLEX accelerated the repairs, with teams working around the clock and with the expedited delivery of the fabricated steel needed for the bridge,” NLEX Corporation said in a statement.

An 18-wheeler struck the bridge on March 19, leaving two of its bridge girders (or the beams that support it) damaged.

The bridge currently has steel poles to let the concrete from the repair work cure.

However, NLEX said it will continue to waive toll fees from the Balintawak to Meycauayan segment until further notice.

We will announce po kapag mag-resume na ulit ang collection sa segment na ito (We will announce when we will resume toll collection for this segment),” it said in response to a user’s comment on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

Construction work caused heavy traffic in the area and with all lanes now passable, the Department of Transportation expects that travel time will be brought “close to normal.”

Meanwhile, parts of NLEX will be temporarily closed on March 27, Thursday, for pavement marking and patching works. Motorists may view the schedule and the affected lanes here. – Rappler.com
