BACOLOD CITY — The confirmed number of deaths from the onslaught of Typhoon Tino rose to 32 with 54 persons still missing in the Negros Island Region (NIR), data from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (RDRRMO) as of Nov. 6 show.

The RDRRMO also said 49,926 families were evacuated from 513 barangay, including 10,754 families who were preemptively evacuated.

The agency also reported that 28 houses were totally damaged and 301 were partially destroyed.

In Negros Occidental the local governments of Ilog, Talisay City, Valladolid, Murcia and Hinoba-an  have suspended work and classes for Nov. 6 and 7.

Negros Oriental, meanwhile, has resumed classes and work in government offices.

La Carlota City, La Castellana, Toboso, Himamaylan City and Bacolod City have declared a state of calamity.

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, on the other hand, will consult with the Provincial Legal Office to determine whether it is necessary to declare a state of calamity as the province is already under such a status due to Typhoon Crising and the infestation of red-stripe soft scale insects (RSSI) in sugarcane fields.
