With the Switch 2 getting a performance upgrade, modern games such as 'Elden Ring,' 'Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade' and the once notoriously demanding 'Cyberpunk 2077' are coming to the platform
MANILA, Philippines – Nintendo on Wednesday, April 2 announced that its highly awaited Switch 2 console will be arriving in stores on June 5 at $450 in the US.
The price may vary in the Philippines and other markets.
Details on the new console were also revealed.
A new GameChat feature levels up the social component of playing games, allowing players to chat via Zoom-like tiles placed on the bottom of the screen while they’re playing. The chat is available whether friends are playing the same game, or different ones. Players have the option of viewing the game that their friend is playing.
The Switch 2 will also be able to use a USB-C camera for GameChat or for other in-game functions. Nintendo will be selling its own camera as well.
Players can easily access the GameChat feature via a new C button on the right Joy-Con 2 controller. The mic is found on the console itself, touting noise cancelling features for clarity.

The Switch 2’s performance sees a much-welcomed bump up, now allowing up to 4k resolution when connected to a TV, and frame rates of up to 120 frames-per-second. It also has a larger 7.9-inch screen at 1080p resolution, going up from the Switch 1’s 6.2-inch display at 720p resolution.
Many modern games weren’t being ported to the original Switch in recent years as it didn’t have the power to run them. With the Switch 2’s upgrade, these modern games are now coming to the Nintendo platform. High-profile titles such as Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Street Fighter 6, and Hogwarts Legacy, to name some, will be getting a Switch 2 version.
The Switch 2’s JoyCon controllers can also be used as a mouse for various in-game applications, and will feature improved rumble function. The console also touts its improved sound and 3D spatial audio, and will come with 256GB of storage, an 8x increase from the original Switch’s 32GB.
The Switch 2 will have backwards compatibility for Switch games, and will be able to play enhanced versions of some of these such as the Legend of Zelda Switch titles, and Super Mario Party Jamboree. Switch 2 players will also be able to play classic Nintendo GameCube games. A GameCube controller will also be launched.
The Switch 2 package will contain the following:
- Nintendo Switch 2 console
- Joy-Con 2 controllers (L+R)
- Joy-Con 2 Grip
- Joy-Con 2 Straps
- Nintendo Switch 2 Dock
- Ultra High-Speed HDMI Cable
- Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter
- USB-C Charging Cable
Two new Nintendo-made games have been announced exclusively for the Switch 2: Super Mario Kart World, the latest in the kart racing series coming out on the same day as the Switch 2, and platformer Donkey Kong Bonanza, out on July 16. – Rappler.com
