The official trailer for “Nine Perfect Strangers” just dropped and the show is as intriguing as ever.
It gives a glimpse of the character of acclaimed Filipina actress Dolly De Leon, who joins the ensemble of nine people chosen "under bizarre circumstances" for a healing retreat.
Dolly and the cast members are told by eerie wellness guru Masha Dmitrichenko (Nicole Kidman) that they needed to heal. “I invited you all here because sometimes you shouldn’t deal with pain gently,” she said.
The guests are brought back to their core memories in the trailer. Dolly is seen waking up in a dark room with only a spotlight over her. In one scene, Dolly is dressed as a nun who comforts another guest and kneels to pray inside a church.
A guest also tells her, “I’ve met you before.”
Hulu also released the series poster, showing the characters sitting on mansion steps with snowy alps in the background.
More cast members include Henry Golding, King Princess, Lena Olin, Annie Murphy, Christine Baranski, Lucas Englander, Murray Bartlett, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Mark Strong, and Aras Aydin.
Dolly was announced as a cast member in 2023.
In an interview with GMA News Online, the actress gushed about her experience filming the show in Munich, Germany.
“It's great. I'm with our producers Hulu, so it's wonderful here. I'm working with a fantastic cast. All of them are great. I love them all,” she said.
Dolly added, “It's wonderful and I'm gonna be here for six months so it's gonna be a totally new and exciting journey for me because I've never been away from home for this long.”
“Nine Perfect Strangers” is based on the novel by Liane Moriarty. It follows nine stressed strangers from the city who gather for a 10-day retreat for transformation and healing at a wellness resort. However, the retreat is not what they thought it would be, and controversial secrets are uncovered.
Dolly made history by being the first Filipina nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for “Triangle of Sadness.” She was also nominated for a BAFTA and attended the Oscars. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
