MANILA, Philippines — Alternergy Holdings Corp. has secured clearance from the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) for the system impact study (SIS) of its planned five renewable power projects.

With a total potential generation of up to 500 megawatts (MW), the projects recently completed the grid impact study, which determines the capacity of the country’s transmission networks to accommodate a new connection.

“The NGCP approval of the SIS is a significant step to move our projects forward. It confirms the grid’s capability and readiness to accommodate and integrate our projects into the system,” Alternergy president Gerry Magbanua said.

The five Alternergy projects emerged as winners in the government’s fourth green energy auction (GEA-4) round earlier this year, with delivery scheduled for 2028.

These include the two phases of the Liberty Floating Solar in Tarlac and the Kalandagan Solar with battery energy storage system in Samar, along with the Tayabas North Wind in Quezon and the Alegria Wind Power in Cebu.

Financial details of these projects were not immediately made available.

“With the NGCP SIS approvals, we are pleased to note that we have successfully submitted to the DOE the post-auction requirements. We are excited to hit the ground running and start the development works,” Magbanua said.

Meanwhile, Alternergy has pushed back to next year the commercial operations of its 128-MW Tanay Wind in Rizal and 64-MW Alabat Wind in Quezon from the original target of end-2025.

The Tanay and Alabat projects are now scheduled to begin injecting power into the grid by March and July 2026, respectively. The delay was said to be due to permitting challenges.

These wind farms, along with the new projects secured under GEA-4, complement Alternergy’s goal of hitting one gigawatt of renewable energy by 2030.
