MANILA, Philippines — NexGen Energy Corp. is setting aside roughly $2.5 billion (around P146.5 billion) to develop three onshore wind projects across the country.

This comes after NexGen subsidiary Airstream Renewables Corp. secured three wind service contracts totaling 1.7 gigawatts in Pangasinan, Samar and Nueva Ecija from the Department of Energy.

The Pangasinan and Samar projects have a potential capacity of 600 megawatts each, while the planned Nueva Ecija facility could unlock 500 MW of wind resources.

NexGen president Eric Roxas said securing the contracts marks a major step forward in the company’s growth plans and further strengthens its development pipeline.

“These three new onshore wind projects — Pangasinan, Samar and Nueva Ecija — position Airstream Renewables as one of the most competitive large-scale wind developers in the country,” Roxas said.

“Together, they represent around $2.5 billion in prospective investment and lay the foundation for long-term, stable value creation for our stakeholders,” he added.

Spanning 13,770 hectares, the Pangasinan project will be integrated into the 230-kilovolt Labrador substation of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) via an eight-kilometer 230-kV transmission line.

The Samar project covers 16,929 hectares of land and will be connected to the grid via the NGCP’s 138-kV Victoria substation.

The Nueva Ecija project, meanwhile, encompasses an area of 9,234 hectares and will be linked to the NGCP’s 230-kV Sampaloc substation.

“We remain focused on disciplined execution, capital efficiency and building high-quality renewable assets that will deliver strong returns for years to come,” Roxas said.

NexGen, which debuted on the Philippine Stock Exchange last year, is owned by businessman Dexter Tiu and is primarily engaged in wind and solar power development.

Through Airstream Renewables, NexGen boasts a pipeline of over 3,000 MW of onshore and offshore wind projects, according to company data.
