New convention center to rise in Tacloban

TACLOBAN CITY — Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez presided over the groundbreaking ceremony on Friday for the three-story Benjamin Romualdez International Convention Center (Bricc) on a 20,620-square-meter property at the former Leyte Park Hotel complex on Magsaysay Boulevard.

The Bricc is a 5,000-seater convention center which is a high impact project of Romualdez and of the Tacloban City government envisioned to become a top venue for regional, national and international events.

Public Works and Highways Regional Director Edgar Tabacon expressed his gratitude to Romualdez, the Tacloban City government, Tingog Partylist and other key stakeholders for their role in initiating the project.

"This international convention center will reflect Tacloban City's vision for progress, proudly showcasing the unique culture and beauty of Leyte," said Tabacon.

"As a premier venue, it will host a wide range of events, from local to international, and propel Tacloban City to new heights," he added.

The ground floor of the convention center will feature various amenities, including a retail concourse, food and beverage areas, lounges, a spacious parking area and other essential utilities.

The second and third floors are designed as a multipurpose venue, capable of accommodating large audiences with seating capacities.

These floors include additional facilities such as mezzanines, plenary areas, meeting rooms, lounges, retail spaces, among others.

"The Bricc is a symbol of Tacloban's global aspirations, connecting Eastern Visayas to the global stage," stated Romualdez.

The convention center is named after Benjamin "Kokoy" Romualdez, a respected figure in diplomacy and politics, and father of Speaker Romualdez.
