MANILA, Philippines —  Nestlé Philippines Inc. has vowed to resolve all the concerns of parents over its recent recall of some infant milk products due to possible toxin risk caused by an ingredient supplied by a third party.

Nestlé Philippines said it is experiencing high volume of inquiries from parents across multiple channels regarding the recall of its NAN Optipro and NANKID Optipro milk items.

“Our team is working with care and urgency to respond to everyone as quickly as possible. We  deeply regret the concern and inconvenience it has caused,” Nestlé said in a statement posted on NANKID Philippines’ official Facebook late Monday evening.

The company said consumers’ concerns remain “important” to them, while disclosing that it is already increasing its customer care manpower and expanding its communication lines to respond faster to queries.

Nestle Philippines said it is also adding new channels to cater faster to the needs of its customers.

“We are committed to assisting every parent and caregiver throughout this process,” the firm said.

Consumers have aired frustrations online regarding Nestlé Philippines’ handling of the recall of some of its infant formula products.

One of the most common complaints by consumers on Facebook and TikTok is the unresponsiveness of Nestle Philippines’ customer service lines to facilitate the replacement of affected products and provide guidance to consumers.

Aside from the challenges in getting responses from Nestle Philippines, several parents shared that they also had a hard time replacing their affected products since they already lost the receipt of their purchase given that the items were already being consumed.

Furthermore, parents claimed that their babies and kids fell ill after consuming the formula milk products, which turned out to be part of the affected batches, before the multinational firm issued the product recall advisory.

The Philippines is among more than 50 countries covered by a global voluntary recall of certain Nestlé infant formula products. Last week, Nestlé issued a global recall advisory after detecting that some batches may have been contaminated with cereulide, a toxin produced by the bacteria Bacillus cereus, which can cause foodborne illness.

According to the advisory, the possible source of contamination was arachidonic acid oil supplied to Nestlé.

There are 35 batches of NAN Optipro milk products and four batches of NANKID Optipro 3+ that were voluntarily recalled in the Philippines.

The Food and Drug Administration said it is already investigating the matter to determine the scope of the issue and assess any potential safety implications. FDA added that it has not received any reports of illness or adverse events associated with the recalled products.
