MANILA, Philippines — Another school suspended in-person classes on Monday, June 29, after receiving a threat of a possible campus shooting.

Escalante National High School in Negros Occidental shifted to alternative delivery mode following reports of an alleged shooting threat, according to the school's official publication, The Light Bearer.

"After an emergency meeting and consultation with the Division Office, the Philippine National Police (PNP), and school administration, this decision has been made to ensure the safety and well-being of all learners and personnel," the publication said in a Facebook post.

The threat allegedly involved messages from an individual who said he would bring a gun to the school and copy the June 22 shooting in Tacloban City, according to reports that included screenshots of the conversation.

More schools report threats

Earlier Monday, Batangas City Integrated High School also suspended classes after a school shooting threat.

The threat was later resolved after security protocols were carried out, with classes set to resume on June 30.

The Escalante incident was the second reported school shooting threat on Monday, following a series of violent incidents involving minors since June 16.

After the June 22 Tacloban shooting, Education Undersecretary Malcolm Garma said the Tacloban incident and the stabbing in Cavite appeared to be isolated cases.

"As of now, we can consider these cases as isolated incidents, given the number of schools in the Philippines," Garma said, according to an ANC report.

But schools have continued to report threats after the Tacloban attack.

On June 25, authorities said they foiled a possible attack by a 14-year-old student in Leyte.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the 14-year-old was also a fan of GoreBox, the online game temporarily blocked by the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center after the Tacloban school shooting.
