MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will issue subpoenas to people who may have had contact with Sen. Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa after confirming that the areas they raided on Wednesday, May 27, all have links to the senator-in-hiding.
“Sa mga darating na araw, we will subpoena personalities na somehow merong naging contact sa kanya. We are already preparing the subpoena in the National Bureau of Investigation,” Matibag said, warning that anyone who helps Dela Rosa hide from authorities will face consequences under the law.
(In the following days, we will subpoena personalities who somehow had contact with [Sen. Dela Rosa]. We are already preparing the subpoena in the National Bureau of Investigation.)
The warning came after the NBI and the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) conducted raids in several areas on Wednesday morning, including a residence in Angeles City, which allegedly belongs to a relative of Sen. Robin Padilla.
“Doon po sa identification ng mga sasakyan, lumabas na yung sasakyan ay present po during the time na nawala si Sen. Bato dela Rosa,” Matibag said in an interview with DZBB.
(Based on the identification of the vehicles, it turned out that these vehicles were present during the time when Sen. Bato dela Rosa disappeared.)
Matibag was referring to the vehicle owned by Padilla, which was allegedly used to help Dela Rosa exit the Senate premises on May 14.
Although the raids did not yield Dela Rosa, Matibag also confirmed that these areas have links to the senator.
Meanwhile, the CIDG is also filing an obstruction of justice complaint against Padilla after their investigation revealed that Dela Rosa’s escape was “highly coordinated” and “pre-planned.”
Firearms license, registrations revoked
As of Wednesday, Dela Rosa’s firearms license and registrations have already been canceled.
This is after the Philippine National Police-Firearms and Explosives Office issued a revocation order for the type 5 firearms license and 117 firearms registered under Dela Rosa’s name.
The order further directed Dela to surrender his firearms.
Earlier, the NBI said that the senator was presumed to be “armed and dangerous.”
