MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will investigate the Duterte family’s alleged assassination plot against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Palace said on Wednesday, April 15.

Self-confessed Duterte bagman Ramil Madriaga claimed in his sworn affidavit that Marcos had an agreement with the Dutertes that he would step down as president in 2025, allowing Vice President Sara Duterte to assume power and run for president again in 2028.

If Marcos did not comply, the Duterte clan had several backup plans: from creating political instability to assassinating him.

The Palace said that Marcos was surprised by this allegation.

“Siya po ay nagulat… dahil hindi po ganoon ang Pangulo,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said.

(He was surprised… because the President is not like that.)

Marcos ran with the full intention of finishing his term, Castro said.

Asked if they will have the alleged assassination plot investigated, Castro said that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is the one tasked to probe such threats.

“The NBI, you are the one tasked to investigate these kinds of death threats against the President, and even against any regular person; you have the obligation to investigate these,” Castro said in Filipino.

Duterte has already publicly claimed that she contacted a hitman to kill Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez in case something happens to her.

This has already prompted an ongoing NBI investigation against Duterte.

Aside from the alleged assassination plot, Madriaga made several shocking claims during the House justice panel’s impeachment proceedings against Duterte. One of his allegations was that Duterte’s 2022 presidential campaign was funded by Pharmally executives.
