MANILA, Philippines — The confirmed death toll in the sinking of MV Trisha Kerstin 3 rose to 65 after the recovery of another body, the Philippine Coast Guard said Sunday, February 22.
PCG technical divers found the body during underwater search operations.
Authorities said 14 individuals remain missing. A total of 293 survivors have been recorded.
Specialized divers continue to scour the wreckage and surrounding waters in search of the remaining passengers.
Possible sanctions
The Department of Transportation said it is preparing to file administrative cases against Aleson Shipping Lines, owner of the vessel, with the aim of canceling and revoking its Certificate of Public Convenience.
MV Trisha Kerstin 3, a rolling cargo vessel, sank January 26 near Basilan province.
The vessel was carrying 314 passengers and 27 crew members at the time of the incident.
