'By leveraging technology, we can eliminate the need for vehicle owners to personally visit LTO offices, saving time, effort, and resources,' says LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza II

MANILA, Philippines – Motorists may no longer have to brace for long lines while waiting for their services at Land Transportation Offices (LTO) across the country.

Over the weekend, the LTO launched its online tracker (ltotracker.com), which the Filipino public can use to check on the status of their driver’s licenses and motor vehicle plates as well as set home deliveries.

The LTO said the tracker also provides real-time updates on deliveries, with nine accredited courier services to fulfill transactions.

“By leveraging technology, we can eliminate the need for vehicle owners to personally visit LTO offices, saving time, effort, and resources,” said LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza II.

The LTO Tracker is straightforward. Upon accessing the website, motorists may enter their license or plate numbers before setting up delivery details online.

However, it cannot be used by foreigners who requested for a conversion of their driver’s license and have availed of courier services.

Prior to its official public rollout, the LTO said it had already completed over 8,000 deliveries of vehicle plates and licenses using the new tracking website.

The LTO had been dealing with the backlog of motor vehicle plates since 2014 due to issues with procurement, logistics, and some legal battles.

In a Senate hearing, it was revealed that the LTO’s backlog stood at 12.5 million as of February 2024. Majority or 9.1 million are for motorcycle plates. The LTO has committed to clear its backlog by 2025.

Mendoza said newly bought vehicles are not part of the backlog, noting that new vehicles are prioritized. – Rappler.com
