BONTOC, Mountain Province — The mother of a newborn baby found abandoned in Samoki, Bontoc, Mountain Province, has surfaced and is now under medical care.

The baby was discovered by residents at around 7:20 p.m. on June 25 in Sitio Khefa, Barangay Samoki.

The newborn, believed to have been delivered only hours earlier, was rescued by barangay officials, health workers, social welfare personnel and police before being rushed to Bontoc General Hospital.

The infant was later placed under the protective custody of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), prompting the local government to issue a public appeal for the child's parents to come forward.

On Saturday, the Bontoc municipal government announced that the baby's mother had presented herself to authorities. She is now receiving medical treatment and assistance at the hospital.

The local government appealed to the public to respect the privacy of the mother and child and avoid speculation, while thanking residents whose cooperation and concern helped lead to the development.
