George and Kenneth Yang’s master franchise of McDonald’s secured, will continue to serve Filipinos until 2045
McDonald’s Philippines has been a staple brand in the country’s quick-service restaurant industry. From its first branch in Morayta, Manila, in 1981 to opening its first Green and Good store in 2020, McDonald’s Philippines etched an unforgettable mark in providing convenient and satisfying meals paired with outstanding service for Filipinos.
A key milestone in 2005, McDonald’s Philippines (Golden Arches Development Corporation) became a 100% Filipino-owned company with George Yang as chairman & founder, and Kenneth Yang as president & CEO. This move strengthened its local roots and paved the way for long-term growth, innovation, and a shift toward a digitally-driven, omni-channel approach — keeping the brand responsive and future-ready in a dynamic market.

On April 4, McDonald’s Philippines made an exciting announcement about another significant milestone the company has recently reached. Gathered together at McDonald’s QA Ligaya, the company revealed that the Chicago-based McDonald’s Corporation has entered into a new multi-unit franchise agreement with Golden Arches Development Corporation (GADC) still under the leadership of George and Kenneth Yang. They were granted this 20-year new franchise license term to continue to develop, operate, and engage in the sub-franchising of restaurants under the McDonald’s brand until 2045.
Following the new term license, McDonald’s Philippines believes the next 20 years will mark a “period of accelerated growth” for the quick-service restaurant giant. "The new term license granted to us by McDonald's Corp. is a bold statement of our collective ambition, as we remain committed to serving as a beacon of growth, opportunity, and shared moments with every Filipino family," said George T. Yang, McDonald’s Philippines’ Chairman, and Founder.
The QSR company plans to expand significantly this year, following the addition of 65 new stores last year that brought their nationwide presence to 792 locations by the end of 2024. With continued positive year-over-year growth, McDonald's Philippines expects to open its 800th store this year, bringing the brand closer to more communities. Beyond providing beloved McDonald's meals across the country, the company has created numerous employment opportunities for Filipinos, particularly working students.

Kenneth S. Yang, President and CEO, shared, "We see our growth coming from areas outside of NCR that have rapidly been developing. We're excited to open more stores and bring McDonald's closer to Filipinos."
