COTABATO CITY— A mother and her two sons, who were helping her run a clandestine drug den, were arrested Sunday night, March 15, in Barangay Poblacion Dalican, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte.

The three suspects, also known locally for peddling marijuana occasionally supplied by remnants of the defunct Dawlah Islamiya terror group, are now detained pending prosecution for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Brig. Gen. Jaysen De Guzman, director of the Police Regional Office–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, told reporters on Monday, March 16, that they were immediately arrested after selling shabu to plainclothes personnel of the Datu Odin Sinsuat Municipal Police Station inside their drug den in Barangay Poblacion Dalican.

The three suspects admitted to local officials, in the presence of reporters, that they owned the drug den where they were arrested after selling shabu to policemen during a tradeoff on Sunday night in an operation supported by traditional Moro leaders in Datu Odin Sinsuat, one of the 12 towns in Maguindanao del Norte.

De Guzman said the entrapment operation was jointly planned by Major Katherine Paydoen, chief of the Datu Odin municipal police, Mayor Abdulmain Abas and Vice Mayor Bobsteel Sinsuat.

The two local executives, who jointly oversee the multi-sector Datu Odin Sinsuat Municipal Peace and Order Council, and personnel from their municipal police force immediately shut down the suspects’ drug den, which is now guarded by barangay officials and volunteer community watchmen.

PRO-BAR will prosecute the detained mother and her two sons for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Under Philippine law, operating a drug den is a non-bailable offense.
