Raps vs policewoman’s husband dropped
MANILA, Philippines — State prosecutors have found probable cause to indict for murder three suspects in the killing of policewoman Diane Mollenido and her eight-year-old son.
Couple Pia Katrina and Christian Panganiban as well as their helper Gil Dy were charged with two counts of murder before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court.
No bail was recommended for the suspects’ temporary liberty.
Prosecutors also dropped the cases filed against Mollenido’s husband, M/Sgt. John Mollenido, after they granted a motion lodged by the policewoman’s sister to remove his name from the list of respondents.
Mollenido and her son were allegedly killed by the Panganibans at their house in Barangay Kaligayahan, Quezon City on Jan. 16.
Their remains were dumped in Pulilan, Bulacan and Victoria, Tarlac.
The prosecutor’s office dismissed for lack of evidence the cases of robbery with homicide and theft filed by police against the suspects.
Christian’s sister, Maribel Panganiban, was cleared of all the charges. She is being considered as a state witness, Quezon City Police District director Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio said.
“We are committed to bringing justice to the victims. While their loss is irreplaceable, we will continue to ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” Silvio said in a statement.
Mollenido’s husband remains under restrictive police custody.
In a letter to Mollenido’s lawyer, Cristobal Rimando, National Capital Region Police Office personnel and records management division chief Col. Percival Zorrilla said the policeman must remain under restrictive custody because he is facing a case of obstruction of justice before the prosecutor’s office in Malolos City, Bulacan.
The Central Luzon police filed the case against Mollenido after he allowed the immediate cremation of the remains of his wife and son.
